About the event

This food safety course is for Food Handlers in the Hospitality or Health and community service sector, working in organisations such as Aged Care, Childcare, Kindergartens, Disability services, Hospitals, Meals on wheels.

What is a food handler? 

A Food Handlers are required to:

1. have basic knowledge of food safety and hygiene

2. be skilled in the tasks for which they are responsible for

3. understand the food safety hazards specific to their job

Anyone who handles food is considered a Food Handler and requires food safety training.

Basic Food Handling course outline 

The following subjects are included in this food safety training session:

  • Legal requirements of food safety
  • Food poisoning
  • Preventing food poisoning
  • Cross contamination
  • Personal hygiene
  • Food storage, preparation and handling
  • Cleaning / sanitizing

Hospitality & Retail SITXFSA001 - Use hygienic practices for food safety - This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to use personal hygiene practices to prevent contamination of food that might cause food-borne illnesses.

Food Processing & Manufacturing FBPFSY1001 - Follow work procedures to maintain food safety - This unit of competency describes the skills and knowledge required to maintain food safety when carrying out work tasks.
